The Empire Bluffs Trail at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is considered a moderate trail and after our hike, I totally see why. The trail has several steep ups and downs that definitely got my heart pounding. We saw a couple of families hiking it and the kids had a lot of fun running up and down them! But, the view at the end made all of that worth it! It was a kind of dreary day, luckily the clouds were interesting enough, but the water was a beautiful teal-blue that I have never seen outside of the Caribbean! Don’t worry, I’ll post a color shot later!
They say cloudy days are good for photography, and overcast does lend itself to more even lighting than you would normally get going out and shooting in the early afternoon. The bad thing about a cloudy day is that dreary skies don’t usually make for good landscapes. A solution? Turn it black and white. It deemphasizes the drab sky and puts the focus on your subject matter.

This is the weekend of the big game so I thought it appropriate to post one of my favorite Spartan pictures. Between many photos of the beautiful Michigan State Campus, this shot from The 2010 Orange Bowl Parade embodies Spartan Spirit the most! I love the straight lines and how the drummers’ feet match perfectly! Spartans Will!
This was a shot that right out of camera, wasn’t very interesting. I made it black and white and and cropped it to emphasize that shadow and voila! Photographers, post-processing can take an OK image and make it great!

This weekend I am enjoying all things Grand Rapids has to offer! This weekend is the Michigan Early Childhood Conference where preschool teachers come from all of the state come to share ideas for the classroom. This is always one of my favorite weekends of the year!
This photo was taken on a walkway above the Grand River behind the Amway Grand Hotel. I think the black and white really emphasizes all the lines in the walkway and the hand rail.
