I am back from my cruise to paradise on the beautiful Norwegian Gem. We had perfect weather, assuming you can handle the heat! There were barely any clouds the whole week until we sailed back into New York harbor where the rain and fog rolled in and made for some unique, if not eerie, photos.
If the opportunity comes up to cruise out of New York, take it! The views while the ship is sailing out of New York harbor are stunning and unforgettable. I will definitely be posting more photos from my relaxing voyage in the upcoming weeks.

Last summer, I finally got to see the Smoky Mountains. We didn’t have much time to spend in the mountains, but we did have time for a drive through Cade’s Cove. Cade’s Cove is an area of the park that is rich in the history of the area. The area was first settled by the Cherokee people in the late 18th century and they remained in the area until they were moved to Oklahoma through the Trail of Tears. The first European settlers arrived in 1818 and on the drive, you pass abandoned homes and churches of people that were displaced at the formation of the National Park.
This photo was taken at The John Oliver cabin on the Cade’s Cove pass, looking towards the mountains that surround the valley. If you would like to tour the area on bike, the road is closed to motor vehicles until 10am on Saturdays and Wednesdays seasonally. If you would like a less physically demanding tour, the road is open to motor vehicles from sunrise to sunset, weather permitting.

When I was in High School I had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Europe for a month with a group of musicians with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. We traveled around France, Germany, and Belgium in a double-decker bus pulling a trailer that must have just screamed “American Tourists!” That trip was 10 years ago this summer and I think it sparked that travel bug in me. I can’t wait to get back to Europe!
This photo was taken at a park in the French Alps with a disposable camera. While this may not be the best photo I’ve ever taken, it proves that you don’t have the nicest camera to take good pictures. I believe that a good photographer in a beautiful location will give you a stunning picture.

When visiting St. Augustine, a trip to Castillo de San Marcos is an absolute must! A little history for you: The Castillo is the oldest masonry fort in the continental U.S. Construction began in 1672, back when Florida belonged to Spain. Over the years, the fort changed hands several times and when the U.S. gained control they changed its name to Fort Marion after General Francis Marion “The Swamp Fox”, a hero of the American Revolution. In 1924 it was designated a National Monument and in 1942 it was renamed Castillo de San Marcos in honor of its Spanish Heritage. Today, tourists flock to the fort to get a feel for American History and the Florida of the past.
I love the lines of this shot. The perspective makes the fort appear larger than life. I also love the texture of the 300+ year old brick that makes up the fort.

Preparing for my trip to the Keys, I kept hearing about how wonderful the sunsets are. Heck, the words “Key West, Home of the Sunset” are written on the Southernmost Point Marker. And I have to say, after watching several sunsets in the keys, Ft. Zachary Taylor in Key West was one of the best places to catch one!
