2015 really was a big year for me. About this time last year I decided to make photography a big focus for 2015 and I did. I started this blog, which has been a big motivator for me to work on my photography. To look at the stats and see that my photos are being viewed all around the world has been very enjoyable for me. I dedicated my summer break to improving my photography and I managed a photo a day project. This year, I realized that portrait photography is actually fun and something I’m not too bad at. I had my first three portrait shoots this year. This year, I also had an amazing cruise vacation! I fell in love with Norwegian Cruise Line and ever since I got home I’ve been dreaming about getting back to sea! Sailing out of New York was truly an amazing sight and it may have been my favorite part of the whole cruise! I have been telling everyone that will listen to me that if you haven’t been on a cruise before, you have to try it! In my opinion, it is the absolute best way to travel!

Wesolych Swiat means Merry Christmas in Polish. This is one of my favorite ornaments that hangs every year on my mother’s Christmas tree. As much as I would love to say it came over with my great grandparents from the old country, I’m pretty sure it was bought at Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth sometime in the second half of this past century. If you’ve never been to Bronner’s, it really is something to behold. Bronner’s is the largest Christmas store in the U.S. and close to Christmas it can be hard to find a parking spot in their massive lot. They have practically any Christmas decoration you could ever imagine and I’ve always loved the section with the international ornaments. If you’ve never been to Frankenmuth, you should definitely put it on your list of places to visit because there really isn’t anything else like it!

It feels crazy to be posting a picture of snow when it was in the 60’s here in Michigan yesterday! Back in November we had record snowfall and this week we have record highs. What crazy weather! I’m starting to think we won’t have a White Christmas this year!
This is another favorite shot from the Fantasy of Lights parade in Howell. I had a lot of fun playing with the snow from the Mt. Brighton float against the light!

This past weekend was the big parade weekend around the country. I braved the cold and drizzling rain to check out Howell’s Fantasy of Lights parade. This is a nighttime parade and all the floats are aglow with lights! Even the marching bands deck themselves out with lights. Of course, Santa comes to town at the end of the parade, ringing in the Christmas season! I love how the lights on the firetruck combined with all the strands of lights decorating it make this photo so red! I have to agree that this truck really embodies the Spirit of Christmas!
Shooting this parade was really a learning experience for me. I brought my 50mm f/1.8 because its the fastest lens I have, but for a lot of the images, I wasn’t able to freeze the motion like I wanted. I kept my ISO at 1600 so I could’ve upped that to 3200 but I was worried about the noise. I think next time, I might bring a monpod and see if that helps.

This past weekend, Southern Michigan had its first snow of the season. Where I live, we hit a November record of 16 inches! It snowed all day, up to 1 1/2 inches per hour! It’s not even Thanksgiving yet and it looks like the heart of winter around here!
The photographer in me had to get out and experience the snow! Of course, the roads were horrible, so I didn’t attempt to leave my yard. This shot goes to show that a little change of seasons can inspire you to capture something you walk right by every day!
