Sailboat Sunset

Sailboat Sunset Revisted

Preparing for my trip to the Keys, I kept hearing about how wonderful the sunsets are. Heck, the words “Key West, Home of the Sunset” are written on the Southernmost Point Marker. And I have to say, after watching several sunsets in the keys, Ft. Zachary Taylor in Key West was one of the best places to catch one!

This is one of my favorite photos! I love how you can see the people on the boat, silhouetted against the orange sky and the reflection of the setting sun in the water. If you like this photo as much as I do, it is available for purchase on Fine Art America.

IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth

Fireworks Friday *Explored!*

If you’ve been following my blog for a little while, you may be familiar with the fact that I am a bit of a Disney fan nerd. Even as  a kid, Epcot has always held a special place in my heart. Personally, IllumiNations is the best nighttime show at the parks. Does it have the Disney music we all know? No. Is it something young kids are going to appreciate? Probably not. Will I cry like a baby if they ever decide to change it? Most likely.

So, on my last trip I knew that I had to put a day aside and bring my tripod to shoot IllumiNations. This was the first time I ever attempted to get a quality (read – long exposure, not taken with a cell phone) photo of fireworks and I must admit it was team effort. My husband watched the view finder and told me when to fire with the remote shutter. One tip for anyone looking to shoot IllumiNations, get closer to the rail along the lagoon. We parked on the opposite side of the sidewalk and by the time the show was over, most of our shots were ruined from all the heads in front of us. But, I think this one turned out pretty good.

Savannah Belles Ferry

Savannah Belles Ferry *EXPLORED!*

Savannah is a beautiful town. We stopped last summer on our way home from (one of my favorite places) Disney World. We decided to rough it at Skidaway Island State Park. While Savannah is a beautiful city, Skidaway was a beautiful park and I was glad we made the choice to stay the night there. If you are visiting Savannah and are looking to camp, I highly recommend Skidaway Island. If you are tent campers, like us, you get a discount too, which is nice.

This photos was taken on the Savannah Riverwalk which was about a 25 minute drive from the park. We had the good timing to get there right as the Susan King Taylor Ferry was pulling out from the dock and the sun was beginning to set. Perfect.

Ladybug on Cactus

Ladybug on Cactus

This photo was taken at the Crane Point Nature Center in Marathon, Florida. If you are planning a trip to the Keys, Crane Point can’t be missed. Admission is a little expensive, but the scenic walking trails and pristine views of The Florida Bay are absolutely worth it!

This is one of my favorite photos from my trip to the keys and I think that’s because there is so much to look at. The ladybug is the obvious focal point, but then you see the spines poking out at you, the spider web, and the vine that is snaking around the cactus. It makes this simple shot a little more complex.

Wordless Wednesday: World Showcase Lagoon

Friendship on the Lagoon

Jumping Through Hoops

Jumping Through Hoops

I went back to work this week and, let me tell you, one week off for Spring Break was just not enough! Yes, I was able to relax and get a lot of work done on the site, but going back to work is never easy. When I have a tough week, this photo always seems to cheer me up. I don’t think it would be that hard to get up and go to work every day if I got to play with dolphins all day!

This photo was taken at the Theater of the Sea in Islamorada, Florida in the Florida Keys. The dolphin show was probably one of my favorite things that I have ever gotten to photograph. This was one of the many things that I loved about the Keys and I cannot wait until I have the good fortune to visit again.

Windy City at Dusk

Windy City at Dusk *EXPLORED*

My most recent vacation was a weekend trip to Chicago after New Years. It was a busy, museum-filled trip with my favorite being a traveling Disney Archives Exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. We got the CityPass for this trip and it really paid off! It didn’t make much of a difference at the SkyDeck or The Field Museum (although we did arrive at the Field in the afternoon when there was no line at all) but it really paid off at the Shedd Aquarium where the line was down the steps and people were waiting out in the open with slush falling from the sky. If you are planning on visiting Chicago and you want to see the sights without worrying about arriving early to avoid lines, the CityPass is definitely worth it! For more information visit http://www.citypass.com/!

This photo was taken near dusk on the steps of the Field Museum looking out at the city. I really like how the statue stands taller than the skyscrapers in the distance.

Cruise Dreaming

Overlooking Jamaica

I am so excited! We just booked our summer vacation! This June we will be sailing the high seas on the Norwegian Gem! We will be sailing out of New York City and visiting Port Canaveral (of all places), Nassau, and Great Stirrup Cay.

This will be our second cruise, the first one was our honeymoon aboard the Carnival Valor. I am definitely looking forward to the hitting the high seas, relaxing, and of course, taking pictures!

The above photo was taken from the Sky Explorer looking out over Ocho Rios, Jamaica. In the distance, you can see the Valor floating amongst sparkling seas and puffy clouds.
